collection of traditional Easter dinner menu ideas, including spiral cut ham, deviled eggs, ham gravy, and corn casserole

What Is a Traditional Easter Dinner Menu?

I’ve always thought of honey-baked ham as being associated with the traditional Easter meal because it’s usually been our meat of choice and what we’ve always had for this special occasion, even growing up. However, traditional Easter dinner ideas include so much more.

    • Ham
    • Rack of lamb
    • Leg of lamb
    • Lamb shanks
    • Roasted chicken
    • Roast beef
    • Pork roast
    • Salmon

Yes, even roast beef, pork roast, and salmon can be part of a traditional Easter feast. I guess it just depends what your family loves to eat this time of year and what traditions have been passed down through the generations.

Our traditional Easter meal favorite is a good spiral cut ham in the oven, along with plenty of Easter sides like mashed potatoes, ham gravy, the most delicious corn casserole (with bacon), green beans with hamburger and onion, and of course, Grandma’s bread rolls.

    How to Host Easter Dinner

Main things to remember when hosting a family dinner for the first time are the invitations, traditional Easter foods and drinks, the seating arrangements, and the hospitality factor. Let’s talk a little bit about each one.

“People will forget what you said, forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

    – Maya Angelou

    1. Make Sure to Invite Guests

Whether it’s a text message or an actual paper invitation, be sure to send out Easter dinner invitations. Otherwise, how will people know you’re even hosting dinner?

    2. Plan to Make Traditional Easter Foods and Drinks

I think I’ve covered this enough below, but plan out a menu with all the Easter food ideas and drinks you want to make. Something to think about… If you’re hosting an Easter potluck, then make sure you’ve got enough people bringing sides, others bringing desserts, and so on.

    3. Seating Arrangements

When I say seating arrangements, I don’t mean who sits next to who, like at a wedding; I just mean, making sure everyone has an actual place to sit, whether it’s at a table, or a seat in the living room.

Back in the day at Easter time, my family would sprawl all over my grandma’s house, from the living room to the kitchen to the back utility room. Small house for a big family, but we made it work.

You might need to think about borrowing a few extra tables and chairs from someone in the family. Or get up to the attic, and haul down all the folding chairs you have to make it work.

    4. Make Your Guests Feel Welcome with Graceful Hospitality

My friend Linda, who blogs over at Life on Summerhill, has so many wonderful ideas for hosting the perfect Easter dinner, including how to create Easter table decor. Beautiful ideas she gives for Easter tablescapes inspire much creativity when it comes to setting a welcoming table for family and friends.

Not to mention all of her wonderful ideas for putting up Easter home decorations, as well. From the centerpiece to festive garland ideas and table settings, you’re sure to find loads of ideas for making your guests feel more welcome and at home.

Whew! I don’t know ’bout you, but I’m ready for all the Easter food!

    Easter Appetizers

No get together or family gathering would be complete without an assortment of finger licking appetizers to whet the appetite.

  • How to Cook a Ham in the Oven, Baked with Glaze

How to Cook a Ham in the Oven, Baked with Glaze

Learn everything you need to know about how to cook a ham in the oven. This baked spiral ham recipe with an easy, simple glaze is perfect for family dinners and holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter.

Every Christmas and Easter, since I learned how to bake a ham, it’s become our preferred main dish, or centerpiece at the dinner table. We like to have ham, whether we’re having company or not.

roasted spiral cut bone-in ham in roasting pan for ham

It’s always a treat, especially when we serve holiday ham with ham gravy (or ham gravy with cornstarch), mashed potatoes, green beans, and Grandma’s homemade dinner rolls. Mmmm, my mouth is watering just thinking about delicious pineapple ham.

Even sometimes through the year, if prices at the grocery store are cheap enough, we’ll bake a whole ham and cut it up for lunch meat that week. I absolutely love a good ham, almost as much as a good Crock Pot pork roast.

While baked ham is fairly easy to make, there are lots of things to think about when you’re baking a ham in the oven. Things like how to keep it moist, how long do you cook a ham, and so on.

Hopefully, I’ll be able to answer all of your burning questions about how to cook a pre-cooked ham. But if you don’t find the answer to your questions, leave me a comment (I check them every so often), and I’ll reply back to you.

Why You’ll Love Cooking a Ham in the Oven

    • There will be leftovers, lots of leftovers! So that means lunch tomorrow, maybe even dinner, and just maybe lunch the next day too. Or breakfast, if you like ham and eggs.
    • Every bite is delicious, and it pairs well with so many different side dishes and vegetables.

    Ingredients and Substitutions Notes:

For this oven-baked ham recipe, you’ll need just 3 ingredients…

    • A pre-cooked ham – My ham in this ham recipe is a 10-pound spiral cut ham. We’ll talk about selecting a ham a little further down.
    • Glaze packet – It usually comes with the ham, and you’ll find it in the packaging.
    • Water

    How to Choose a Ham

Our grocery stores here make it pretty simple when it comes to selecting the right ham. They don’t offer a whole lot of choices. However, your store may offer an entire selection.

I’m going to keep it pretty simple here and talk about the basic ham types, so you can easily make a decision as to what kind of ham you’d like to serve.

    Types of Ham

    • Bone-in ham – A bone-in ham is going to give you more flavor and texture. It’s also likely going to be sold as a half ham. It’ll still likely be a fairly large size, but you’ll only get half the ham. It will require carving.
    • Boneless ham – This ham is going to be more processed and have less flavor but a smoother texture. It will need sliced, but it won’t be as much work as carving around the bone.
    • Spiral-cut ham – A spiral-sliced ham is what I used to make this recipe. Spiral-cut hams are bone-in hams, and they sometimes have a glaze already applied. That’s something to think about if you’re wanting to make your own glaze; you’ll want to look for one that comes with a glaze packet instead, so you can opt out of the pre-made glaze.
    • Smoked ham – This type of ham usually has been smoked by the manufacturer.
    • Heritage ham or fresh ham – This type of ham usually comes from a local farmer who raises a heritage breed of pigs. You might even find fresh ham at a local butcher shop.

If you want to read more, Taste of Home has a really great guide on how to choose the best ham for your next feast.

How much ham per person do you need?

The size ham you need depends on how many people you’re cooking for and whether you’re serving a bone-in ham or boneless ham. Remember, the bone adds weight, that isn’t meat, to the ham.

For a bone-in ham, you’ll probably need about 3/4 to 1 pound per person; for a boneless ham, figure about 1/3 to 1/2 pound per person.

So, if you’re like me and cooking a 10-pound bone-in ham, you can probably feed 10-12 people. If it’s a 10-pound boneless ham, you can probably feed 15-20 people.

How to Cook a Ham in the Oven

Baking a fully cooked ham is a pretty straightforward, simple, and easy process. If this is your first time learning how to bake a ham, rest easy, because usually, your package will have all the instructions you need.

Before you get started, be sure to preheat the oven to 250° F.

    1. Remove the ham from its packaging, and place it face down in the roasting pan for ham. Important Tip: If your package has any juices in it, pour them into the bottom of the pan, along with about a cup of water; this will help your ham to stay more moist.
    2. Cover the ham tightly with foil (all of it but the bottom, so the juices can run out into the pan, and so juices can steam into the ham, keeping it more moist). Then bake the ham according to the instructions in the recipe card below (or according to your package instructions). Usually, you’ll bake it for 12 to 15 minutes per pound. So a 10-pound ham will bake for about 120+ minutes.
    3. About 45 minutes before the end of your bake time, empty the ham glaze packet into a small saucepan, along with the water.
    4. Bring your glaze to a boil over high heat while stirring constantly.
    5. At this point, you’ll need to remove the glaze from the heat. And about 1/2 hour before end of cook time, remove your ham from the oven, take off the foil, and apply the glaze all over the outside of the ham with a basting brush. Then bake it, glazed and uncovered, for another 30 minutes or so.
    6. When the ham is done, you can bring it out of the oven, let it cool just a bit, and use a sharp knife to slice it for serving.

    Expert Tips and Recipe FAQ’s

How long does it take to bake a ham?

Let’s talk about cooking time and internal temperature when you’re learning how to bake a ham in the oven. Always be sure to look at the packaging instructions for your specific ham, and follow what it says for cook time. This spiral ham came from Aldi, and it said 12 to 15 minutes per pound. So being a 10-pound ham, it needed to cook for about 2 hours (120 minutes) or more, but not too long or it’ll dry out. An 8-pound ham would take about 96+ minutes to bake. A 12-pound ham, 144+ minutes. And so on and so forth. It’s best to have a meat thermometer on hand. According to the USDA, spiral-cut cooked hams that were packaged in processing plants under USDA inspection must be heated to 140 °F as measured with a food thermometer (165 °F for leftover spiral-cut hams or ham that has been repackaged in any other location outside the plant). Cook-before-eating hams or fresh hams must reach 145 °F (with a 3-minute rest time) to be safely cooked before serving. Read more of their Ham and Food Safety instructions.

How do you cook a spiral ham without drying it out?

There are a few specific steps you can take to keep a fully cooked ham from drying out while it’s baking…
    – Like I mentioned above, save ham juices from packaging, and pour them into the bottom of the pan; this will help your ham to stay moist.
    – You can put a little less than a cup of water or some kind of stock/broth in the bottom of the pan before baking if you want. This will also add moisture.
    – Covering your ham with foil helps it to retain moisture, as well. Of course, you can also bake it in a roasting bag.

How do you store baked ham?

You need to store baked ham in an airtight container in the fridge; it should keep for 3-5 days.

    Can you freeze baked ham?

Yes, you can freeze a pre-cooked or baked ham. I suggest cutting your ham up into smaller portions and freezing it in airtight containers or freezer bags with aluminum foil; that way it’s easier to get those smaller portions out and re-heat them. When it’s time to re-heat, just make sure you have plenty of time for thawing, especially if you’re thawing a big, huge ham. Keep in mind, according to the USDA, you can store a spiral-cut ham or ham leftovers in the fridge for about 3 to 5 days; and you can freeze them for about 1 to 2 months.

What to Do with a Ham Hock

Don’t just throw away that ham hock or leftover bone. Repurpose and make something delicious.

15 bean soup with ham is a great way to use a ham bone and make something comforting. My mom and grandma always used ham hock to make a big pot of pinto beans, and we’d eat it with cornbread.

    Ingredients and Substitutions Notes

You’ll need a few simple ingredients to make this strawberry yum yum recipe…

    Crust –

    • Salted Butter I recommend using real butter, as margarine will affect the texture of the finished crust.
    • All-Purpose Flour You can make this crust gluten-free, as well, by using a good gluten-free flour.
    • Chopped Pecans You can make an easy shortcut no-roll crust without nuts, but the pecans really make this crust. You can also press crushed pretzels into the pie crust instead of pecans, if desired.

You can also buy store bought pie crusts and press chopped pecans into the crust, though you’ll need 2 pie crusts, since they make a smaller pie or dessert.

    No Bake Crust Alternatives

    • Graham cracker crust – Use graham cracker crumbs to make a graham cracker crust or base for this dessert. You can even take one reader’s suggestion and line the graham cracker crust with sliced bananas.
    • Pecan Sandies crust – Make it like you would a graham cracker crust, only with Pecan Sandies.
    • Vanilla Wafer crust – Make a Nilla Wafer crust just like you would a graham cracker crust, or just layer Vanilla Wafers in the pan for a crust.

    Strawberry Topping –

You don’t even need strawberry gelatin to make this amazing fresh strawberry filling.

    • Corn Starch
    • Water
    • Cane Sugar – You can also use granulated sugar.
    • Fresh Strawberries You’ll need fresh sliced strawberries, and you’ll also need strawberry purée. You can use frozen strawberries to make this strawberry filling; just be sure to slice strawberries while still frozen, and then allow them to thaw and completely drain before using, so they don’t add unnecessary moisture to the topping. I do recommend fresh berries, though, if at all possible, for better flavor. Make strawberry purée by blending strawberries in a blender. It’ll likely take 6-8 big strawberries to make 1 cup of strawberry purée.

    Dream Whip Filling –

    • Cream Cheese I recommend using full-fat cream cheese.
    • Dream Whip You can find this at most grocery stores in the baking aisle. If not, you can sub Cool Whip and make this a Cool Whip strawberry delight dessert.
    • Whole Milk You can also sub 2% milk or skim milk; just keep in mind, whole milk will make a much more creamy dessert.
    • Pure Vanilla Extract
    • Powdered Sugar or confectioners’ sugar.

How to Make Strawberry Yum Yum

We’ll start with the crust. Then we’ll make the strawberry topping, so it can cool, and then the Dream Whip cream cheese filling.

How to Make the Pecan Crust

I like to make the my favorite nutty pie crust ahead of time, and that way it’s cooled and ready to go when I need it. And yes, you can freeze it for later.

    1. In a large mixing bowl, mix together the melted butter and flour, forming a soft dough.
    2. Stir the chopped pecans into the dough until they’re all mixed in.
    3. Press the dough into a 9×13 baking dish.
    4. Bake at 350° F for about 20 minutes, or until the edges of the crust begin to turn a nice golden brown (baking times can vary). Then let the crust cool before adding any filling.
steps for how to make a pecan crust, including mixing in white bowl, then pressing and baking in blue and white baking dish

How to Make the Strawberry Topping

The strawberry pie filling is probably my favorite part of this dessert, besides the cream cheese. It’s quick and easy to make too.

    1. First make strawberry purée by adding 1-2 cups fresh strawberries to a blender and blend into a liquid purée; you’ll need 1 cup strawberry purée. Set the rest of the sliced strawberries aside for now.
    2. Whisk the corn starch and water together in a small Pyrex measuring cup.
    3. Add the corn starch mixture, strawberry purée, and sugar to a large saucepan and whisk ’til combined.
    4. Bring the strawberry mixture to a boil over low to medium heat, and boil for a good 3 to 5 minutes, or until it really thickens up and becomes a deep red color. Then remove it from the heat and allow it to cool completely.
steps for how to make strawberry puree, then make into strawberry sauce using corn starch and water mixture and strawberry puree in saucepan

Make the Cream Cheese Dream Whip Filling

Now some people do make the cream cheese filling with Cool Whip, but I’ve carried on my mom’s tradition of a creamy Dream Whip filling. I like to call it angel fluff.

When you mix Dream Whip with cream cheese, it becomes this amazing dreamy filling with all that cream cheese goodness. It makes an excellent strawberry no bake dessert.

    1. Using an electric mixer, beat the cream cheese separately first thing. This will help it soften up more, and it will blend in better with the Dream Whip, once you’re ready for that step.
    2. In a separate large bowl, whisk together the Dream Whip envelopes with the milk and vanilla, according to package directions. Whisk it until it begins to form soft peaks, about 4 minutes. You can also follow this tutorial for how to make Dream Whip.
    3. Mix cream cheese and powdered sugar into the Dream Whip mixture, and whisk for 3 to 5 more minutes, or until the cream cheese mixture is smooth and creamy.
    4. Spread the Dream Whip cream cheese filling onto the prepared pie crust. You can save back just a little bit of whipped cream for a whipped topping on the final dessert if you want.
steps for how to make no bake Dream Whip cream cheese filling to layer on strawberry yum yum dessert

    Layer the Strawberry Topping

    1. Once the strawberry sauce has cooled, mix it together with the rest of the sliced strawberries you set aside earlier.
    2. Then spread the strawberry layer on top of the Dream Whip filling.

    1. Cover the assembled dessert with plastic wrap, and allow it to chill in the fridge for at least 4 hours, or overnight if possible, before serving.

When it’s ready to serve, you can top off strawberry delight with a dollop of whipped cream and an optional garnish like a fresh sprig of mint, or serve it as is. This yummy strawberry dessert is full of thick fluffy layers of deliciousness! It’s strawberries and cream at its best, a most refreshing dessert!

Campfire Cinnamon Rolls (in a Dutch Oven or Pie Iron)

Here are two ways to make campfire cinnamon rolls, in a Dutch oven or pie iron, over the campfire or on the grill. This ooey gooey, delicious camping recipe makes an easy breakfast you can make ahead and cook outdoors! It’s perfect for the whole family; kids can help too!

People ask what we eat when we’re camping, and we pretty much eat anything we’d eat at home; in fact, here are some of our most popular camping recipes. We even make cherry cobbler over the campfire! Of course, we try to keep meals simple and easy; and these camping cinnamon rolls are no exception.

campfire cinnamon rolls in foil pie plate on wood counter

If you’re like me and love a good visual, you’ll find a video further below that’ll walk you thru the steps for how to make this easy campfire cinnamon rolls recipe on your next camping trip.

Why You’ll Love These Camping Breakfast Desserts

    • You can mix up a batch of campfire cinnamon rolls (and the icing for them) ahead of time and take it all with you in the cooler. I’ll have some easy storage tips for you below.
    • Like my homemade biscuit cinnamon rolls and Bisquick sweet muffins, these gooey cinnamon buns taste just as good as cinnamon rolls.
    • Just like drop biscuits, you can cook camp cinnamon rolls over a grill or a campfire in the fire pit.
    • Make Dutch oven cinnamon rolls or pie iron cinnamon rolls, or both; the choice is up to you!
    • While we’ve taken canned cinnamon rolls camping with us, I’m just not a huge fan of store-bought cinnamon rolls. This is such an easy recipe; and even though this is a biscuit mix or Bisquick recipe, they taste so good, and our boys absolutely love it when we make fun camping desserts (like these toasted skillet s’mores). Your kids will love them too.

    Ingredients and Substitutions Notes:

Gather a few simple ingredients to make this cinnamon roll recipe…

    • Biscuit Mix – You can use whatever brand biscuit mix you like; I prefer to use a buttermilk baking mix for this recipe, mainly because of the purpose the buttermilk serves in helping with leavening, or the rise of the biscuits.
    • Whole Milk – You can also use 2% or skim milk, if you don’t have whole milk.
    • Salted Butter – This will need to be melted. Be sure to use salted, as this adds to the flavor.
    • Cane Sugar – You can also use granulated sugar.
    • Ground Cinnamon
    • Vanilla Extract
    • Almond Extract – This just adds a little flavor kick to the powdered sugar icing that goes on top of the rolls.
    • Powdered Sugar or Confectioners Sugar

How to Make Campfire Cinnamon Rolls

I recommend mixing these up at home and then packing them in a cooler for cooking later over the campfire (or grill). If you can’t use a campfire or grill, because there have been many times we were in that exact situation, you can cook them in a Dutch oven on your camp stove.

Dutch oven cinnamon rolls made with Pioneer mix, baked in foil pan and drizzled with powdered sugar icing

How to Mix and Roll the Dough

    1. In a large mixing bowl, mix the biscuit mix and milk together until you have a nice sticky dough.
    2. In a separate smaller bowl, mix together the cinnamon and sugar.
    3. Spread a little flour out on a clean surface, and knead your dough just enough so it’s not sticky anymore.
    4. On the lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness.
    5. Brush on the melted butter; then sprinkle it with the cinnamon sugar mixture.
    6. Roll the dough tightly into a log. Then cut it into 1-inch slices.
    7. Place each slice upright in a foil pie plate, in a single layer. Once the pie plate is full, just cover with plastic wrap, and then place the whole pie plate down in a plastic gallon bag, seal it, and place it in your cooler.

Now if you want frosted cinnamon rolls, you gotta mix up the icing quick.

How to Make Powdered Sugar Icing for Camp Cinnamon Rolls

You can use this easy sugar cookie icing, but you may want to cut it down because you won’t need that much.

    1. In a mixing bowl, mix together the softened butter, vanilla extract, and almond extract.
    2. Add the milk to the mixture.
    3. Slowly add the powdered sugar to the mixture, mixing it in as you go.
    4. Once everything is mixed together, the icing should be smooth and creamy, free of any lumps.

Once the icing is made, store it in a simple squeeze bottle with a lid and tip cover, and put it in the cooler. This makes it easy to both store in your cooler and then squeeze right on your cinnamon rolls after they’ve cooked. No mess, no fuss; it’s so simple and easy!

2 Ways to Bake Cinnamon Rolls Outdoors

You’ll need one of two things… A Dutch oven and/or a pie iron. Pie irons are fun because then everyone can cook their own, and kids love being able to make their own.

    1. Dutch Oven Cinnamon Rolls

    1. For Dutch oven cinnamon rolls, make a sling with aluminum foil.
    2. Place your uncovered foil pie plate down into the Dutch oven using the sling. We like to put a few canning jar rings in the bottom of our Dutch oven, so the pie plate isn’t sitting directly on the bottom of the Dutch oven; this helps prevent the bottoms of the cinnamon rolls from burning.

    1. Place the Dutch oven over the hot coals of a campfire; or place campfire-approved cooking grate above the hot coals in a grill, and place the Dutch oven on the grate. Then let the rolls cook for probably 10 minutes or a little more, ’til they’re golden brown and done. If you want to cook directly over the campfire, you can use a tripod, so your Dutch oven can sit up off the large flames, and the bottoms of your cinnamon rolls won’t burn. However you cook them, just check them frequently to make sure they don’t burn.

    2. Pie Iron Cinnamon Rolls

    1. Spray the inside of a pie iron with cooking spray.
    2. Place 2 or more cinnamon rolls inside, close it up, and hold it over the grill or fire, rotating every 30-60 seconds.

    Now Drizzle the Icing

    Expert Tips and Recipe FAQ’s

What’s the difference between cinnamon rolls and cinnamon buns?

There are a few differences between the two. Cinnamon buns usually have both brown sugar and nuts added; the brown sugar gives them a much sweeter flavor. They also don’t usually have icing; they’re usually sticky and served as is without any icing on top.

Can you cook these in a skillet, on the stove, or on a roasting stick?

Sure! As long as you have a lid for the skillet, you can cook campfire cinnamon rolls over the coals for the same amount of time. You can also cook cinnamon rolls on the stove in a skillet or on a griddle; just be sure to flip the cinnamon rolls, so each part of the roll cooks through and is golden brown when done. As for roasting on a stick, you can also keep the rolls whole or untwist the rolls and place the rolls or dough on long roasting sticks; then hold the rolls or delicious campfire cinnamon roll-ups over the campfire to cook, kinda like you would if you were roasting marshmallows or hot dogs. Just keep in mind they might not be as moist, and you may lose some of that gooey filling.

What’s the best way to keep from burning the bottom of cinnamon rolls?

Like I mentioned above, putting canning jar rings in the bottom of the Dutch oven, then setting the foil pan full of cinnamon rolls on those jar rings, helps to prevent burning. You can also place each individual roll in an orange peel, from a hollowed-out orange, in the pan; this not only helps prevent burning, it also gives a slight orange flavor to the rolls, which pairs really well with cinnamon. Then also, keeping the pan off the open flame and to the side over hot coals instead will also help to prevent burnt rolls.

    How should you store leftovers?

Definitely put any leftovers in an airtight container or sealed bag in the cooler. If you use a foil pan, you can even cover that foil pan, bag it, and put it in the cooler.

    • Large Mixing Bowl
    • Rolling Pin
    • Pastry Brush
    • Foil Pie Plate
    • Camping Dutch Oven
    • Pie Iron
    • Squeeze Bottle

    Rolls:

    • 3 cups biscuit mix
    • 1 cup whole milk
    • 1 tablespoon salted butter (melted)
    • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
    • 1/4 cup cane sugar

    Icing:

    • 1 tablespoons salted butter (softened)
    • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
    • 1/4 cup whole milk
    • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

    Mix and Roll the Dough:

    1. In a large bowl, mix the biscuit mix and milk together until you have a nice sticky dough.

    2. In a separate smaller bowl, mix together the cinnamon and sugar, and set aside.

    3. Spread a little flour or biscuit mix out on a clean surface, and knead your dough just enough so it's not sticky anymore.

    4. Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness.
    5. Brush the melted butter onto the dough; then sprinkle it with the cinnamon sugar mixture.

    6. Roll the dough tightly into a log. Then cut it into 1-inch slices.
    7. Place each slice upright in a foil pie plate.
    8. Once the pie plate is full, cover it with plastic wrap; then place the whole pie plate down in a plastic gallon bag, seal it, and place it in your cooler.

    Make Powdered Sugar Icing:

    5. Once the icing is made, store it in a simple squeeze bottle with a lid and tip cover, and put it in the cooler.

How to Bake Dutch Oven Cinnamon Rolls:

    1. For Dutch oven cinnamon rolls, make a sling with aluminum foil.

    2. Place your uncovered foil pie plate down into the Dutch oven using the sling. We like to put a few jar rings in the bottom of our Dutch oven, so the pie plate isn't sitting directly on the bottom of the Dutch oven.

    3. Let the rolls cook over the coals of a campfire, or on the grate above the coals in the grill, for probably 10 minutes or a little more, 'til they're golden brown and done. If you want to cook directly over the campfire, you can use a tripod, so your Dutch oven can sit up off the fire, and the bottoms of your cinnamon rolls won't burn. However you cook them, just check them frequently to make sure they don't burn.

How to Bake Pie Iron Cinnamon Rolls:

    1. Spray the inside of a pie iron with cooking spray.

    2. Place 2 or more cinnamon rolls inside, close it up, and hold it over the grill or fire, rotating every 30-60 seconds.

    3. Cook the cinnamon rolls for around 10 minutes, or 'til they're golden brown and done. Just check them frequently to make sure they don't burn.

    4. When your campfire cinnamon rolls are done, just squeeze on the icing, and they're ready to eat! Yum!

I recommend mixing these up at home and then packing them in the cooler for cooking over the campfire (or grill). If you can’t use a campfire or grill, because there have been many times we were in that exact situation, you can cook them in a Dutch oven on your camp stove.

Definitely put any leftovers in an airtight container or sealed bag in the cooler. If you use a foil pan, you can even cover that foil pan, bag it, and put it in the cooler.
